about

The ancient Japanese art of kintsugi is more than a technique for repairing pottery. It is a philosophical stand, one that accepts cracks and flaws and turns them into beauty. A broken object is therefore not a lesser object, but rather a piece enriched by the course of life in its many twists and turns.
This beautifully poetic principle is of course applicable to other experiences of human existence – such as art and creativity. In music, for instance, this idea seems to find the most resonance in free improvisation, a practice that searches for meaning in the unforeseeable and deals first-hand with the shortcomings of human creativity.
This album is a testimony to that principle – a collection of improvisations where shreds of music and unprepared explorations come together to form musical pieces. In the process of recording this music, we welcomed each new possibility, each surprise or unexpected turn. We trusted our ears and each other, and often marvelled at the outcome. We hope you do too.
